Company Introduction

Funded by Korea Telecom (KT), Gangwon provincial government, and Gangnung city government, Gangwon Embedded Software Cooperative Research Center (GEMS-CRC) was established at Kangnung National University in 2004, mainly to develop technologies and to technically support companies in the field of information technology (IT). GEMS-CRC is pursuing the development and commercialization of USN-based technologies with focus on environment monitoring, disaster prevention, tourism, and medical apparatuses.

Gangwon Embedded Software Cooperative Research Center (GEMS-CRC), having a storing partnership with Korea Electronics Technology Institute (KETI) and Disaster Prevention Industry Agency at Gangwon Technopark, has widened its role through technical exchange with industry such as transfer of its core USN technology to industry and joint research with industry.

GEMS-CRC has developed an image-on-demand transmission scheme in a wireless sensor network for the first time in the world. Unlike the conventional transmission scheme, the image-on-demand transmission scheme allows a server to send data request commands to a specific sensor node in a multi-hop manner and to receive the requested data also in a multi-hop manner. The image-on-demand transmission scheme is expected to be effectively applied to various fields including environment/disaster monitoring, artificial structure monitoring, and military surveillance systems. GEMS-CRC has filed 8 patents regarding the new image transmission scheme.

Other technologies secured by GEMS-CRC include sensor interface technology, sensor node operation with low power, bidirectional data communication in a wireless sensor network, image transmission in a sensor network, gateway design, real-time remote monitoring software, abnormality detection algorithms, water-proof housing for sensor nodes, and optimal deployment of sensor nodes.
